Dialogue with Bosses

Email from D, Little Boss in Australia - 'Running ten minutes late for our catch up call'.

Me: 'No worries, but we need to keep it short and snappy if that's ok. I have a hot date tonight'.

[On the conference call with D and Big Boss P from Australia]

P: 'So, hot date tonight huh? You know you're not supposed to call it a hot date. THEY'RE supposed to call it a hot date'.

Me: 'Oh you misunderstand me. I'M the "hot" part of the hot date. So it's ALWAYS a hot date' How's that for an early morning wake-up call?!'.

[Explosive laughter from the other side of the world].

I love that I can tell my Australian bosses crap like this. I love making them laugh. I love that after years of working together we share a rapport which lets me get away with saying anything, despite how high up on the corporate ladder they are. I don't share this as yet with my new US boss. Perhaps with time, but I feel that the click with some people are simply audibly louder no matter what.
